Back on the Trail

Tonight we're camping on the side of Mt. Taylor on the CDT main trail. Mt. Taylor is a favorite in Grants.  Nearly 17 miles today along with a heavy pack (food for 8 days), and a lot of climbing. My feet are tired, but I think they are holding up. I'll know more in the morning. I'm in my tent and it just started sprinkling. I  hope it stops and everything will be dry in the morning. Also, it feels great to be back on the CDT.

Silver City Trail Days

Mural at the Silver City Visitor Center   We took a zero day (hike 0 miles) yesterday in Silver City. My first zero day of the trip. Highway sign on the way to Silver City The CDTC held an event called Trail Days to promote the CDT. The CDTC office is in Golden, so I recognized the organizers and it was nice to see familiar faces. Pat, Dan, Marty and Kona My highlight was meeting Erin's friend Marty and spending time with him talking about the CDT and the 406 Trail. Marty (trail name Race) hiked the CDT in 2015. A couple years later he biked the Great Divide bike route. Now he's working to establish the 406 Trail across Montana.

Guest post: A few days on the CDT with my Dad

The "before" picture at Gibbons Pass Guest post: Erin here! (Pat's daughter) We just got back from three fabulous days on the Continental Divide Trail. My longtime friend and former college roommate Cassy and I, along with my dog Nelli, joined my Dad over the 4th of July to hike from Gibbons Pass to Big Hole Pass. Cassy among the wildflowers This section of trail follows part of the divide that makes up the Idaho/Montana border, so we were crossing between Idaho and Montana multiple times a day. The hike started out with some confusion on my part. I thought we were going from Big Hole Pass near Wisdom to Gibbons Pass, which is near Lost Trail Ski Area. Turns out there are two Big Hole Passes in Montana -- a fact I didn't know until we were about to leave Missoula and head to the trail.
